We’ve recently welcomed some exciting media visitors to our Youth Zone, including SkyNews and BBC Midlands, who came to speak with our staff and young people about important current issues.
Sky News visited to cover Ronan’s Law, a proposed change that would introduce stricter regulations for online retailers selling knives. As part of their report, they interviewed two of our incredible young people, Jacob and Isabella, who shared their thoughts on the impact of knife crime and highlighted how The Way provides a safe space where young people can engage in positive activities, build friendships, and make informed life choices.
BBC Midlands focussed their report on the 5th anniversary of the Covid lockdown and how young people can improve their loneliness and anxiety levels by keeping active and socialising in safe spaces like our Youth Zone.
It’s so important to listen to the views and concerns of young people on the issues that affect them, and we are incredibly proud of how confidently our young people spoke to reporters. Seeing our Youth Zone featured on the national and local news was a fantastic moment, showcasing the power of young voices in shaping conversations that matter!
Our Head of Youth Work, Rebecca, also took part in an interview on Radio WM about the issues addressed in the much talked about Netflix drama, Adolescence. From cyberbullying to the rise of incel culture, and even the completely different language teenagers use through emojis, Adolescence shines a light on the complex and often hidden world young people navigate daily.
